The closing date for the Public Ballot has now passed and no applications received at the Club with a postmark dated after the 31 December will be entered into the Ballot.

The first ballot will take place in January and successful applicants will be notified from February onwards.

If you have sent us a stamped, addressed envelope but missed the 15 December deadline, we will send you instead A Guide for Non-Ticket Holders which gives details of how to purchase a ticket at the turnstiles on the day of play and other relevant information.

New Center Court of Wimbledon

The All England Lawn Tennis Ground plc,owner of the grounds at which the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships are staged, has announced that it is issuing up to 2,500 Center Court debentures at a price of £27,750 each for the five years 2011-2015 inclusive. The issue is expected to raise net proceeds of approximately £59.5 million.

The 2009 Championships will be the first with a retractable roof over Centre Court. When in use, the roof is designed to ensure that tennis can be played and viewed in adverse weather during the summer. The AELTG has invested significantly in the restaurant and bar areas exclusively for the use of Centre Court debenture holders. The redevelopment of Centre Court has enabled the AELTG to improve the quality of the seating with the installation of wider, upholstered seats and, since 2006, the seating capacity has increased to approximately 15,000.

Debentures were first introduced in 1920 to finance the purchase of part of the company’s present grounds and buildings and the construction of Centre Court. Since then, proceeds from subsequent debenture issues have provided funding for many significant improvements to the facilities at the grounds.

A Centre Court debenture confers the right to on Centre Court for every day of The Championships for the five-year period covered. The price of £27,750 each, including VAT at the rate expected to be prevailing at the time the instalment payments are made, is made up of a nominal value of £2,000 (repayable in August 2015), a premium of £22,000 and VAT of £3,750.

Wimbledon 2009 Championships

Each year, the tournament begins on the Monday falling between 20 and 26 June, which is six weeks before the first Monday in August.Wimbledon begins two weeks after the Queen's Club Championships, which is one of the men's major warm-up tournaments for Wimbledon. Another important men's warm-up tournament is the Gerry Weber Open, which is held in Halle, Germany during the same week as the Queen's Club Championships.

The 2009 Wimbledon Championships will be held from June 22 to July 5, 2009 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
Player arrangement:

A total of 128 players feature in each singles event, 64 pairs in each single-sex doubles event, and 48 pairs in Mixed Doubles. Players and doubles pairs are admitted to the main events on the basis of their international rankings, with consideration also given to their previous performances at grasscourt events. Currently (since 2001) 32 male and female players are given seedings in the Gentlemen's and Ladies' singles while 16 teams are seeded in the doubles events.
PRIZE MONEY FOR THE 2009 CHAMPIONSHIPS:

The All England Club, Wimbledon, today announced that the Men’s and Ladies’ Singles Champions at The Championships, 2009 will each receive £850,000, an increase of 13.3% on 2008 (£750,000).

The total prize money will increase by 6.2% to £12,550,000 from £11,812,000 in 2008, with the combined prize fund for the Gentlemen’s and Ladies’ Qualifying events up by 3.1% to £562,800.

Included in the overall figure above are the ‘per diem’ payments (£170 per day and an estimated total of £772,200 in 2009) paid to all competitors, to help with the cost of accommodation, travel and other expenses – especially important for the younger players at the beginning of their careers.

Wimbledon continues to contribute towards the pre- and post-Championships grass court tournaments that form an integral part of the grass court circuit.
